There is a place where the canopy lays thick above the earth, a sanctuary for birds, fauna, and the soul. It is where true light pierces through shadows, ushering in the most genuine love. It is where golden beams of hope flood all matter of decay. It is a place of perfect peace and rest. A place where heart and soul pause to be still and know God.
Do you have a place such as this? Do you long to be still, where you can be sealed off from the world with all of its clanging notifications barking orders for you to do more, see more, hear more, change more, be more. The endless barrage of “shoulds”, driven by our fast paced, ever changing culture. can be a heavy burden. However, there is a place where you can go to drop the burdens and just be. It is in the sanctuary of the presence of our Heavenly Father. He calls us to come to Him. He gives rest, not more burden and not more “shoulds”. From His humble and gentle heart, He gives us rest for our shriveled souls.
Can you take a moment today? Maybe you can’t physically go to a place of solitude, but even a deep inhale…exhale, and the prayer of releasing your burdens can be done in your car, the elevator, or a quiet corner. Any place can become a sanctuary in a moment set aside to be still with God. It is a gift given for your renewal.
Dear God, Thank you for the invitation to be still and know that you are God. Thank you for the beautiful physical places we can enjoy in your creation. Thank you for coming to meet us when we are stuck in places with walls, forced air, and fluorescent lighting. It doesn’t matter where we are because you are always with us. Thank you for the beauty of your presence. Please keep us in the sanctuary of your love today. Amen
- Matthew 11:28-30Jesus says, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls”.
- Psalm 55:22″Cast your burden on the Lord, and He shall sustain you; He shall never permit the righteous to be moved”.

Just reading this made me long to be still before the Lord. He leads us to green pastures and still waters. Thank you for reminding me of that soul longing which I do not fulfill every day.
