A Sunday evening prayer

Dear Jesus,

We thank You for a new week ahead, with all its opportunities and challenges.

We lift before You the weary, the downtrodden, and the restless. They are the ones who feel as if they are spinning their wheels. They rise each day only to do what seems the same as the day before. Yet still, they press on through the monotony to care for the small, the weak, or the demanding. So often, there is no thanks, no words of appreciation. But tonight, Lord, help them remember who they truly serve. It is not themselves. It is not the shifting voices of culture. It is not the one behind the big desk or the little highchair. They serve the risen Savior, the One who came to give abundant life. He came to free the oppressed. He came to lift up the downcast.

Remind us of our purpose and calling. And if we are uncertain, awaken us to the wonder and awe of who You created us to be. Father, set us in motion toward the true prize of life. Help us to keep our eyes fixed on You in the humble work of the everyday. Remind us that our time is not wasted when it is lived for You.

You hold all our days—the ordinary, the difficult, and the exhilarating. As we place our feet on the ground tomorrow morning, may we move forward resting in You, Lord of order. Let us walk into the day ahead with grace and beauty. May we do all that You have set before us. For it is in Your power that we serve, love, and find our purpose.

In Jesus’ holy name, Amen.
