Bless your heart

Bless your heart.

when it has cracked wide open.

Bless your heart

when words were spoken.

Bless your heart

for the pain it bears.

Bless your heart

when it seems no one cares.

Dear friend, you’re not alone

if your feelings are locked down, rarely shown.

You may board them up and hide away

perhaps to share another day.

But the Lord gave us one another

and courage to confide in each-other.

We aren’t to hole up and isolate.

That is the enemy’s harmful bait.

Baring your soul is risky, that’s true

but what if a friend only knew

how much was laying upon your heart.

Go ahead, pull the string…let the words start.

Dear God, when a brave one comes our way

help us to really listen and not just say

what comes to mind – to smooth it over,

corralling the emotions back to order.

And even in the midst of our own pain

give us empathy for them just the same.

For to be heard heals the heart,

allows us to live again and take part.

Help us to ask a thoughtful question,

drawing out – what’s hard to mention.

God give us the courage to engage…freehearted

not drop conversation before it started.

Communion is what life is made for

not to clip our wings but to help us soar.

In sharing our joys and our lament

we flourish in the friendship…heaven has sent.

So, thank you God for your good gift

Hearts to share and burdens to lift.
