I’ve come again to sit before you
in a moment of quiet solitude.
I crave these times, this place of rest
time carved out to dwell with you.
To be with the One who holds the breadth of time,
there is no place, more secure, more divine.
I must trust your ways above my own
and so…
I’ve come to lay down that thing again.
Here Lord…here it is…wrapped up tight
in brown paper, some cloth and string.
Remember what it used to be?
My dream?
Like a kite, I’d try to fly it high.
It would start on the ground with me.
Letting out a little string, I’d run with it,
waiting for a breeze to catch and take it to flight.
Sometimes it would start to rise and I’d smile,
I’d think “this is it, it’s going to happen!”,
and then…
a gust, a crosswind, a collision…
a collision of what?
My dream and your plan?
Did they not coincide?
It looked like they were one and the same…
One plan together,
catching flight but then…no, it would flutter down.
It never really took off, Lord.
So, with a few modifications, a little tape, a little glue,
I’d resolve to start again.
Let out the string, find the breeze, toss the kite and run.
This time, this time, Lord, we will do it!, I’d think.
But this time…there was no stirring, no lift.
It just lay in a heap,
No breeze, no wind, no stir in the atmosphere.
So here I sit with you Lord,
here at the end…at the end of my string.
What else can I do?
You hold my life, you see me.. at least… you say you do.
And so,
I choose to trust in you, to believe this is true.
My plan, my dream, my life…
no longer looks as I’d imagined it to be…it’s mangled now.
But you have a way of taking the mangled and the broken.
You have a way of bringing the winds of change.
Show me a new thing Lord.
I lay this longing at your feet
and here I will wait once again.
I want to trust you…that you are preparing me,
preparing me to run faster, stronger…
preparing me to handle the dream you have for me.
Though it isn’t clear – what the future holds,
you are good, trustworthy and you know…
So I will walk holding your hand
in your time and in your way.
Waiting in this space to see what you have for me.
And meanwhile…
I can do what you have shown me,
the small, the sometimes mundane
but no less holy
inhale…exhale…
say a prayer for others.
yet…
all to your glory, God.
Enjoy a bit of bread, a sip of wine,
yet…
all to your glory God.
Fold a load of laundry, mop a dirty floor,
yet…
all to your glory God.
Be a listening ear, a soft place to fall,
do a task that makes no earthly sense at all
yet..
all to your glory God.
Put pen to paper, words to share,
yet…
all to your glory God.
Praise you while I trust you,
in this space of waiting,
I pray…Lord help me do this
always and only…
all to your glory God.

Your words along with the beautiful images have a way of calming my heart and bringing me to a state of peace and contentment. Thank you, Ann.
Thank you Kris. I am so thankful that we can have that peace in the waiting.
I saw this and thought, “I’m in a waiting space right now “ and you have helped me take a different look at it. Ann, you have a way with words that really touches me. Thank you🥰
Those waiting spaces are tough. Thank you so much for telling me that Karla, it helps me to keep writing!
Beautifully said. I can relate to broken dreams… but as the Bible says and you quoted “His ways are not our ways”. We will keep trusting and giving God glory.
Yes and is it ever a day by day trusting 🙂
